Empowering Inner-City Voices: Shaping Tomorrows Leaders Today Initiative

"For a majority of my life I was under the Impression that politicians simply blew out hot air, making promises and pointing out problems just to inevitably do nothing. However, my time being a part of the Darius Mayfield Foundation has turned my former opinion around completely. I first want to point out how accepting the team behind the foundation is/has been to me. In every single interaction I’ve experienced with the wonderful people responsible for the foundation, I have been made to feel like I'm an equal to individuals that are far older and more qualified than me, like my voice matters and my input is appreciated and arguably the most important thing is, they made me feel like I was a part of their family. Their hospitality and respect are only the icing on the cake as the foundation in itself is an amazing idea and a tangible step to building a brighter future. The Darius Mayfield Foundation aims to tackle the transportation gap that has plagued students for centuries and in the short time that I've spent on the ground working with Darius, Kezia, Stephanie and Yamira, I have gained a new level of hope that something will actually be done. These individuals are not scared to get into the weeds and speak to people and genuinely listen with the goal of doing what's best for the communities that can sometimes be forgotten. While the Foundation may be fairly young, there is no doubt in my mind that the sheer passion and dedication held by the people behind this effort will carry this foundation to heights never seen before."  - James Muse, Trenton, NJ

"Today was a day worth remembering- bringing together our youth, watching them experience new wonders, inspiring them to believe they are bigger than where they come from, and that they can do more than they imagine. Thank you, guys, for the chance."- Robert Fulton, Director of Magnetic Force Smooth Steppers Drumline
